I thought of all the big things in Australia like the Great Barrier Reef, the Great Ocean Road, the Great Australian Bite and thought they are big, they’re just great. I also thought of the movie starring Tom Hanks but realised it wasnt relevant. So here’s my take on this week’s theme: BIG

Big Adventure — Trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is still one of the biggest adventures I have ever done.

Big Ben — Big Ben is such a classic symbol of London…but in comparison to modern structures it might have to renamed to “Modest Ben”

Big Bigger Bigger Biggest — Doing a tour of the Moet et Chandon cellars in Reims, certainly builds up a big thirst!

Big Change — Hard to believe that just over 20 years ago the Pudong region of Shanghai was just rice paddies.

Big Cheats — This photo was taken at the 2009 Tour Down Under, starring Lance Armstrong ….it has just recently been revealed that he and many of the rider were taking illegal steriods. Big surprise…no?

Big Climb — Mount Kilimanjaro…ahhh doesnt look that big, but it got the better of me. Damn altitude sickness!

Big Ditch — The canal at Corinth still facinates me that someone had the big idea to dig a big ditch right through the country so that boats could avoid going the long way round

Big Ego — The pyramids of Giza are just one examples of man’s big ego

Big Expectations — The Mona Lisa comes with big expectations, and seeing it for the first time (if you can get through the ever-present crowds, leads to some disappointment as most people think it is going to be “bigger”

Big Feed — Lunch time in Greece is a always a big family time with a big feed and the sight of the octopus drying in the sun bring on the big drool!

Big Jigsaw — This is how many of Xian’s Terracotta Warriors were found – in bits and pieces, not all standing in a row. Now that’s a big jigsaw putting all them all back together again

Big Koala — The Big Koala in Nhill (halfway between Adelaide and Melbourne) is just one of the Big Things in Australia.: Big Prawn, Big Banana, Big Orange, Big Merino, Big Rockinghorse are just a few.

Big Leap of Faith — The Big Leap of Faith was opening the door of The Don’t Forget Travel Group

Big O — The Big O at Disney’s California Park

Big Ship — Many people go to Oia to watch the sunset, this is why. Just one of many photos of the sunset at Oia, on Santorini’s northern point.

Big Surprise — Wasnt expecting this “wave” to swamp me on a beach in Naxos. The surprise is that Greece just doesnt have waves!

Big Tower — The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpor were once the tallest in the world, now they have been dwarfed many times.

Big Wall — The Great Wall of China is a big wall (and its prettty great as the name suggests) but its not so big that you can see it from space, thants just a myth.

The Dont Forget Travel Group is taking part in the Weekly Photo Challenge, but we’re adding an extra twist as we’re going to try and adapt the weekly theme into being “travel related” somehow! This week’s theme is: BIG.

Wouldn't you love to be here right now?

It conjures up images of octopus sizzling on the charcoal grill, the plump ripeness of the juicy tomatoes, the sharpness of salty feta, the cold Mythos Beer sliding down the throat as the sun dips below the horizon into the iridescent blue ocean. Flowing white linen against tanned skin in the cooling temperature while in the distance the sounds of the bars heat up. Long relaxing meals that stretch into hours with longtime friends that stretch into years. Lazy days lazing on lounges neatly lined up on the beach steps away from the cooling clear sea with long Frappes delivered to you by the beach cafe. The crackle of the salt drying on your back after a cool swim to take the heat off, in water so clear that you can eyeball the fish. The squeal that is a mixture of fear and delight as you jump off rocks and cliffs into the blue waters below. Watching the craggy, sun-ravished fisherman fixing their bright yellow nets after hauling in the mornings catch with the local cat sitting patiently and hopefully for a discarded handout. The sun bouncing off whitewashed houses with bright purple or pink bouganvillia competing for attention with the coloured window shutters in a variety of blues and greens. The feeling you get when you come across yet another picture postcard scene (or is it now called an Instagram moment?)

This is summer in Greece.

After a few failed attempts and exhaudting our marketing budget* I've nailed the message!

9 years ago the doors to TDFTG were opened on Glen Osmond Road, and while those doors are now closed, the business still survives, albeit in a very pared down version.

It has been a wild ride with so many highs, a few lows, a lot of fun and lots of grey hairs (you never quite breathe properly until your clients have finished their trip and made it home safely) from natural disasters, terrorism, volcano ash, airline strikes,, train strikes, car crashes, hotel fires, no snow, too much snow, pandemics, civil unrest, missed flights, missed boyfriends at home, exuberant youthful antics, European refugee crisis, the list goes on, and now a pandemic.

But mostly it has been fun and rewarding.

The current situation that we find ourselves in will pass, and while travel will probably be very different - more carefully and care free - we will be out exploring again.

Im just excited that I've nearly processed all of our clients refunds. Its been a long drawn out, mentally draining procees clawing back refunds from airlines, tour companies, small European hotels etc, but after 11 months we are nearly at the end, which will be a big relief of a lot of stress.

I the meantime, while your traveling locally, or interstate, don't forget to talk to your local travel agent, you may not think it's worth it to them, but to them it may be what keeps them going to pay the ongoing bills.

Ps I'm hoping if I mention @jennysbakeryadl they will give me a free coffee....we were neighbors for 9 years afterall. (Side note: my plan of my shop staying empty and me moving back I sat a heavily reduced taste had failed - it been leased!!!!@)
